With an aroma similar to that of a lemon drop, Litsea Cubeba essential oil has been compared to lemongrass and lemon verbena. It is considered sweeter and finer than lemongrass and a possible fragrance alternative to the costly lemon verbena. The Litsea Cubeba plant is a small tropical tree with lemon scented leaves and flowers and small berries which resemble peppers. The essential oil is steam distilled from the small pepper shaped fruit. Also known as May Chang, Litsea Cubeba essential oil is primarily produced in China. The uplifting aroma of Litsea Cubeba is helpful in the treatment of fatigue, lethargy, insomnia, anxiety and depression. Litsea Cubeba oil is helpful for general skin cleansing due to its antiseptic properties.
