A study in Germany recently found that jasmine has similar effects on the body as Valium. Jasmine was found to be molecularly comparable to sedatives, according a study published by German scientists last week. Breathing the scent of jasmine aided in anxiety and sleep relief, according to the “Journal of Biological Chemistry” report.

In the future, a whiff of jasmine molecules (transported into the blood via the lungs) could be substituted for psychotropic prescription drugs, says scientists at the Ruhr University Bochum and the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf.

Hundreds of fragrances were tested to see how they effected the function of the neurotransmitter GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). Bochum Professor Hanns Hatt said in a statement, “Applications in sedation, anxiety, excitement and aggression relieving treatment and sleep induction therapy are all imaginable. The results can also be seen as evidence of a scientific basis for aromatherapy.”

One of the priciest ingredients in perfume making, jasmine absolute is expensive to make since 12,000 pounds of jasmine flowers are needed to produce two pounds of the oil. One pound of jasmine absolute costs around $2,200. Our Love’s Embrace Organic Solid Perfume contains jasmine in its blend of six precious essential oils, whereas Seductress contains both neroli and jasmine in its blend of eight precious essential oils.

You can experience jasmine in our Organic Solid Pefumes:

Love’s Embrace: a floral scent with jasmine, geranium, peru balsam, and a hint of spice. Apply this perfume to your pulse points and you’re ready for a rendezvous in a magical garden with the one you love.

Seductress: a green Chypre scent with a hint of oak moss, orange, neroli, and jasmine. This scent is reminiscent of stepping into a beautiful hidden forest glade where the light gently dances on your skin.

Our Aromatherapy Soy Candles are now showcased on MyShoppingConnection.com’s “Greener Choices for Home Decor and Fragrance” page. To make our candles, we use 100% natural U.S. grown soy wax, cotton wicks, pure natural essential oils, and post-consumer recycled glass containers for our candles.

Why should you buy Soy Candles vs. Paraffin candles?

Soy is a clean burning wax that has little to no petro-soot or other harmful emissions (no black ring of soot at the top of the candle container; allergies are seldom triggered).

Soy wax is a renewable resource, and when you buy U.S. grown, you are helping out American farmers.

Soy contains no toxic chemicals or carcinogenic compounds. Soy candles do not release toxins like paraffin candles.

Our Soy Candles are available in four aromatherapy blends:

Bergamot/Ylang Ylang: exhilarating and inspiring

Bourbon Geranium: stress relief

Lavandin/Litsea Cubeba: relaxing and uplifting

Vanilla/Lime: comforting and refreshing

Anti-bacterial Facial Scrub:
Baking soda is especially beneficial for acne-prone skin. Add three teaspoons of water to two tablespoons of baking soda to make a paste and apply it to your face, rubbing gently in a circular motion. Rinse, pat skin dry, and apply a light layer of moisturizing cream.

Deep Conditioning Hair Mask & Moisturizing Hand Mask:
Olive oil is rich in polyphenols, which are antioxidants that help stop the spread of free radicals and also the damage caused by pollution, smoking, alcohol, and sun exposure. Apply Extra Virgin Olive Oil to your hair and leave it on for 5 minutes as a deep conditioning hair mask. While you clean your kitchen, you can add a few drops of essential oils to a teaspoon of olive oil, rub the mixture into your hands and put on your rubber gloves for a deeply hydrating hand mask. Rinse after 5 to 10 minutes.

Moisturizing Face Mask:
Bananas are very moisturizing because of their high potassium content. To make this mask, you can simply mash one banana and massage it onto your face and neck. Remove with warm water after 10 minutes.

Soothing Blemish Treatment:
Honey (make sure you use pure, without any added flavorings) inhibits the growth of certain bacteria, so it is great for oily or blemish prone skin. Apply honey to your face and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse face gently using a warm wash cloth.

We are happy to announce that we have created four new aromas for our Organic Perfume line! We received many requests for our signature aromatherapy scents in solid perfume and they have finally arrived. Enjoy!

Bergamot/Ylang Ylang:
The fresh citrus scent of Bergamot is uplifting, relaxing, and helps soothe anxiety. Ylang Ylang oil is known for its euphoric, aphrodisiac, sedative, antidepressant, and stress-relieving properties. It has a sweet, soft floral aroma with a hint of spice.

Bourbon Geranium:
The essential oil of Bourbon Geranium creates a soothing and stress relieving aromatherapy experience. Bourbon Geranium has a minty rosy aroma. The scent is uplifting and inspiring, promotes stability and balance, and relieves symptoms of stress, PMS and menopause.

Lavandin/Litsea Cubeba:
The essential oils of Lavandin and Litsea Cubeba create an experience of relaxation and bliss and release a lavender lemon aroma. Lavandin is known to be balancing, soothing, and relaxing. It also helps to relieve stress and headaches. Litsea Cubeba oil has an uplifting and stimulating aroma reminiscent of lemons.

Vanilla/Lime:
To create a comforting and uplifting aromatherapy experience we use the essential oils of Vanilla and Lime. Obtained from cured vanilla beans, vanilla oil has a richly sweet comforting aroma. Cold expressed from the peel, lime essential oil is stimulating and uplifting.

Our Organic Solid Perfumes are perfect for traveling, since they do not spill and will easily fit inside a pocket or purse. They are housed in 1/2 oz. aluminum tins with an organza pouch. The organic grape seed oil is skin nurturing and we have recently doubled the amount of essential oil we use, so that the scent lasts even longer.

I came across this great recipe on Prissygreen.com several months ago and thought I’d share it with you for the holidays. I have tweaked it slightly using a Vegan-friendly version and have added more essential oil. Lavender buds give the cookies a bit of pizzazz. The recipe is easy and makes great aromatherapy gifts!

Moisturizing Bath Cookies

Ingredients:
2 cups fine sea salt
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup cornstarch
5 tablespoons ground flax seeds
8 tablespoons water
3 tablespoons oil (almond, carrot, jojoba, olive, coconut, argan, etc.)
1 teaspoon vitamin E oil (about two capsules)
1 teaspoon essential oil
*optional: add 2 tablespoons of lavender buds, rose petals, loose teas, calendula blooms, etc.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Pretend like you are making real cookies! Get out your mixing bowl and mix the ground flax seeds with water and stir until flax starts absorbing some of the water. Add in all the other wet ingredients.

Mix all the other dry ingredients in a separate bowl, then fold in. Last fold in any fun optional ingredients. Shape dough into teaspoon size balls and place them on a baking sheet. Bake for eight to ten minutes or until golden.

Makes about 24 cookies. For great gifts, place four to six in a decorative bag and tie with a ribbon. To use, place two cookies in a nice warm bath and relax!

I love diffusing pure essential oils during the holidays to create a peaceful, inviting atmosphere in my home. Essential oils are the essences of plants, not fragrances chemically made to mimic a specific scent. By diffusing essential oils into the air you can reduce bacteria, mold, and unpleasant odors. You can also promote relaxation, clear the mind, and improve alertness and mental clarity. I use an aromatherapy lamp, which has a small basin of water and a lit candle beneath it. Add 8 to 10 drops of oil to the water and have fun experimenting with your own blends! Here are a few to try:

cinnamon

clove

nutmeg

orange

peppermint

spearmint

vanilla

balsam fir

frankincense

myrrh
